The Circle share price reacted to its financial results, which showed that revenues rose as its losses jumped because of its Initial Public Offering (IPO) costs.

The result showed that the company’s stablecoins in circulation jumped by 90% YoY to over $61.3 billion. According to CoinMarketCap, this figure has now jumped to over $65 billion, solidifying its stay as the second-biggest stablecoin in the industry.

Cicle’s revenue jumped by 53% to $658 million, helped by the growing USDC market capitalization and stable interest rates. Its net loss soared to $482 million because of IPO costs.

Most of its revenue came from its reserve income, while the other segment made $24 million, up by 252% from the same period.

Risks and opportunities

Circle Internet opportunities

Circle has several risks and opportunities that will impact its performance in the coming months. The first opportunity is the recently signed GENIUS Act, which will streamline the stablecoin market over the years.

Most notably, Circle may see a surge in inflows if USDT exits the US market because it does not comply with the regulations. The GENIUS Act states that all USD stablecoins must have US dollar or short-term government bonds as reserves, USDT is backed by multiple assets like gold and BTC.

The other key opportunity is the Circle Payment Network that seeks to change how banks move money. It removes the several layers that exist, boosts transaction speeds, and then lowers costs. If successful, this arm will be a game-changer in the financial services industry.

Further, Circle announced the upcoming launch of Arc, a layer-1 blockchain network for stablecoin payments.

CRCL risks

While Circle has many opportunities ahead, it has major risks ahead. The most important risk is that its main source of revenue could shift in the coming years.

In this, the Federal Reserve is expected to cut interest rates in September, October, and December. Such a move will bring the benchmark interest rates from the current 4.50% to 3.75%.

Analysts expect more cuts next year when Jerome Powell’s tenure ends. As such, interest rates will likely end next year at 2% or below, meaning that Circle’s interest income will be affected.

Circle will need to increase its stablecoin supply to offset the decline in interest income.

The other risk is that Arc is moving into a highly competitive industry where chains like Ethereum, Tron, Solana, and BSC have a substantial market share already. Most layer-1 blockchains don’t succeed because of this competition.

The other risk for Circle stock price is that the stablecoin competition is rising. Some of the most notable competitors are tokens like PayPal USD (PYUSD) and Ripple USD (RLUSD).

The two-hour chart shows that the CRCL stock price has been in a downward trend. It moved from high of $262 in July to $163. It has also moved below the 50-period moving average.

Therefore, the stock is likely to continue falling as sellers target the key support level at $100, which is 38% below the current level. A move above the resistance at $200 will invalidate the bearish view.
